Prom orders are placed months before the first customer walks in, so every decision counts. Here is a framework many of our buyers use to build an inventory that sells through.
1. Start With Your Best Sellers
Look at last year's sales by color and silhouette. Reorder the proven winners first, then add new styles around them. Past performance is the best guide you have.
2. Balance Colors
Aim for a mix of safe neutrals, trending pastels and a few bold statement colors. Customers who want black or navy will always show up, and the unexpected colors are what make people stop and look.
3. Plan Your Size Run
Do not buy only the middle sizes. Customers at both ends of the range get tired of being told nothing fits, and they remember boutiques that take them seriously.
4. Mix Price Points
Include entry-level styles, mid-range favorites and a handful of showstoppers. The showstoppers pull people in even when the sale ends up being the style next to it.
5. Leave Room for Reorders
Hold back some of your budget for mid-season reorders. Watching what sells in the first few weeks tells you exactly what to add.
